Mimi from Hurstville
Mimi, Saver Plus Coordinator “I’m so happy to see my participants improving their money skills.”
Mimi’s role as a coordinator includes building strong relationships with local schools, city councils, and other community centres while also guiding her participants through their 10 month savings journey.
Mimi from Hurstville first discovered the Saver Plus program 11 years ago when she was studying at TAFE NSW and wanted to save up for a laptop. She enjoyed going through Saver Plus so much, she decided to volunteer with the program to help raise awareness amongst the growing Chinese community in her area. Mimi understands first-hand the challenges faced when English is a second language, and uses her language skills to assist her participants through the program. After winning Volunteer of the Year in 2013 from The Benevolent Society, she was offered a job as a Saver Plus coordinator and continues to deliver the program in Hurstville through The Smith Family.
Building strong relationships
One of Mimi’s memorable participants is Dana, a mum of two who completed Saver Plus in 2016. “Dana still keeps her ANZ bank account to save for her children’s future needs. What a saver!!”
Mimi’s role as a coordinator includes building strong relationships with local schools, city councils, and other community centres while also guiding her participants through their 10 month savings journey. She particularly enjoys delivering the MoneyMinded financial education workshops to her participants. “I’m so happy to see my participants improving their money skills. They work hard during our workshops and when they thank me, it really makes my day.”
Mimi has personally benefited greatly from Saver Plus, saving enough over the years to buy her dream home. Her personal journey is an inspiration for all and shares “I know it is important to save money no matter how big or small your goals are. I’m just an ordinary person, if I can do it, so can you!”
