Our 2019-2023 BSL Strategy outlines our ambition to directly support over 150,000 people who experience disadvantage through services delivered by BSL and our Community of Practice partners so that they can find sustainable pathways out of poverty.
Together with our partners, this year we achieved many important outcomes for people experiencing disadvantage. The following represents just a few…
- Supported 4,650 children from disadvantaged households to be school-ready4,650 families in 100 communities across Australia participated in our Home Interaction Program for Parents and Youngsters, empowering parents and carers to be their child’s first teacher and provide a rich home learning experience for 4 and 5-year-olds
- Connected 5,339 children with developmental delay with support5,339 children who experience a developmental delay received support accessing NDIS Early Childhood Early Intervention packages
- Assisted 3,358 people experiencing disadvantage through our employment programs3,358 people experiencing disadvantage were supported through our employment programs, including people from migrant, refugee and asylum-seeker backgrounds.
- Assisted 2,843 young people to transition to workThrough our National Transition to Work Community of Practice, BSL and its partners have assisted 2,843 young people with their transition to work
- Helped 3,075 people to develop savings habits and save $878,4633,075 people developed a savings habit through Saver Plus and received matched funding from ANZ. Across Australia, participants in Saver Plus saved a total of $878,463
- Supported 2,144 Saver Plus participants to buy equipment for learning online2,144 Saver Plus participants used savings to help their children with technical support for remote learning. Thus, the program matched over $1 million for laptop, tablet, computer, internet access and computer accessories
- Assisted 25,753 participants accessing NDIS packagesOur Local Area Coordination team assisted 25,753 participants accessing NDIS packages to connect to services and support
- Held 26,443 planning meetings with NDIS recipients26,443 planning meetings were held for participants accessing NDIS packages, allowing them to connect to services and support. 99 per cent of participants said the planning meeting went well and 98 per cent said they understood the next steps of the planning process
- Provided Care at Home to 1,800 households in VictoriaWe created innovative ways to meet our clients’ goals and care needs, so they could stay at home, in familiar surroundings, and in touch with the people and places they value.
- Provided 53,000 hours of Home Care services to older people53,000 hours of services were provided to older people through 1,250 Home Care Packages, enabling them to stay in their homes with appropriate support
- Made 15 policy submissions advocating for energy equityWe made 15 policy submissions advocating for energy equity to ensure low-income households aren’t disproportionately affected by the costs of climate change
- Actively leveraged our evidence and insight to inform dialogue and decisions on key social policy issuesThrough 62 research reports, submissions and publications prepared by our Research and Policy Centre, we contributed to dialogue and decisions on key social policy issues. Includes informing policy discussion and decisions relating to climate change, housing and homelessness, employment, education, training, work and economic security.
