Recognising dedication: BSL’s staff and volunteer Service Recognition event

Our Service Recognition event at the Fitzroy Town Hall in June, was a chance to recognise BSL’s staff and volunteers who have surpassed milestones from five years up to fifty years in their service to BSL.

A large group of people are standing inside the beautiful Fitzroy Town Hall. They are facing the camera and two women are holding carboard cutouts to read ‘50.' They are all waving and smiling as they celebrate Jean Newbegin's fifty year service milestone.

The event was a clear highlight of 2024 and is set to become an annual feature on the BSL calendar. Colleagues were invited to an afternoon tea and their enduring contributions were recognised for shaping the impact and ethos of our organisation today.

BSL Executive Director Travers McLeod was MC for the event. Following a Welcome to Country by Uncle Perry Wandin, BSL Board Chair Stephen Newton congratulated people for their ongoing service and awarded them with a certificate and service recognition pin. While everyone's service was honoured, two particular milestones stood out - the combined fifty years as both volunteer and staff member by the incredible Jean Newbegin and forty years by our wonderful head office maintenance officer, Paul Lovell.

It was a wonderful opportunity for everyone to reflect on shared achievements and how our remarkable staff and volunteer dedication supports the continued success of BSL’s vision of an Australia free of poverty.

A group of people are standing at the bottom of a grand set of stone stairs outside a building. They are gathered next to an orange sandwich board sign which has the BSL logo on it and reads “Welcome to Staff Recognition Event.” It has some orange balloons attached to it. They are smiling.
