Age proves no barrier: Coolibah kicks up heels

They may not be young but they can still shake it out on the dance floor. Last Friday night the Brotherhood’s Coolibah Centre, a community centre for seniors, held its annual ball in Fitzroy.

The theme of ‘rock and roll’ lived up to expectations as the 50 revellers kicked up their heels and danced the night away. In line with the Coolibah’s inclusive spirit, members had spent months helping Brotherhood staff to organise the annual event. The rock and roll decorations matched the music – which could be heard outside on Brunswick Street. John Lennon and Elvis would have been proud. A three course meal, door prizes and live music all made for a memorable night. Bev Greenham, a resident of our Sambell Lodge aged care home in Clifton Hill, collected the award for best female dancer. Her energy on the tiles was unmistakable. ‘We had a great time,’ said Ms Greenham. ‘The band was nice, the food was great and the people dressed up. I won the crown for the best dancer which made me feel so happy.’ Coolibah manager Marica Cindric congratulated all involved for another successful event. ‘The venue looked amazing and our members were very pleased,’ said Marica. ‘We can’t wait till next year.’ The Coolibah Centre , Victoria’s longest-running day centre for seniors, encourages independence and good living for its members in a caring and home-like environment.
