What to expect on your volunteering journey
Through BSL’s Code of Conduct, all employees and volunteers agree to treat others with dignity and respect, behaving with honesty and integrity. Volunteers are also expected to follow BSL policies and procedures.
Coming onboard
BSL is a Child Safe organisation. You will be asked to undergo screening checks before starting in your volunteer role.
We will support you to complete these screening requirements and will cover any associated costs.
Depending on your role, you may be asked to complete:
- A criminal history check
- Working With Children’s Check
- Aged care statutory declaration
- VicRoads driver history reports
- NDIS workers screen check
We are passionate about providing you with a safe and healthy volunteer environment.
While volunteering, we will ensure you:
- Are treated equally and fairly, recognised as a valuable member of a team.
- Have access to policies and procedures that effect you.
- Are provided with appropriate training and support to perform your role.
- Have your personal information kept confidential.
- Are reimbursed for any agreed upon out-of-pocket expenses.
- Are appropriately covered by insurance.
- Have a choice regarding the activities you take part in and the option to say ‘no’ when you cannot commit to a task.
- Have access to a complaints process and relevant support services.
While volunteering, we ask that you:
- Treat everyone with dignity and respect in line with the Code of Conduct.
- Follow BSL policies and procedures.
- Maintain the privacy and confidentiality of all BSL workers, clients, and customers.
- Let us know when your availability changes.
- Communicate regularly with your manager.
- Undertake training, as required.
- Report all injuries, near misses and hazards.
- Ask for support when you need it.
- Only undertake tasks that are outlined in your role description.
