The Brotherhood of St. Laurence’s (BSL) Social Policy and Research Centre presented a special Anti-Poverty Week edition of #BSLTalks.

As part of Anti-Poverty Week, an expert panel, facilitated by BSL’s Dr Dina Bowman, with Prof. Miranda Stewart, National Children’s Commissioner Anne Hollonds and an expert by experience, explored issues with the current family payment (Family Tax Benefits) system and their impacts on child and family poverty.

These payments play an important role in tackling child poverty, but successive changes have undermined their effectiveness leaving children at risk.

We teased out the issues, discussed the impacts on children, and highlighted opportunities for change.
