The Short Break Stay program was established to offer people with advanced dementia a three-day stay in a homelike setting.

As part of the program, people were attended by staff especially trained to communicate closely with their carers and thereby replicate preferences and established home routines.

This study found that this innovative response to carer needs, designed and delivered by BSL Retirement and Ageing Services, provided real support and reassurance for carers and care recipients alike.
