It's the simple things that matter: an evaluation of the Banksia host-home respite program
This report describes an evaluation of an innovative respite program for elderly people with dementia and their carers.
Provided by the Brotherhood of St. Laurence through the Banksia Centre in Carrum Downs, the program offered respite in small groups in a care-worker’s home, in a model which drew inspiration from Family Day Care and from a service operated in Western Australia by the Alzheimer’s Association.
The researchers consulted care-recipients, carers and staff to assess the host-home program’s effectiveness and to identify learnings for implementation of similar respite programs.
